About Us

Van Wingerden Garden Center is a family run business and loving it! Owner and top dog “Dad” had the brilliant idea to start a garden center in his already flourishing wholesale greenhouse back in 2001. Starting out as a one bay annual flower business, it has grown into what it is today with several new divisions including trees and shrubs, gift shop and full service floral shop! “Dad” owner and full time “papa” has a lot on his plate. “Jen,” oldest daughter heads up the retail division. “Len” oldest son does the expert growing along with drinking lots of coffee. ”Tom” next son in line is working on a lot of things including school, blueberry farming and eating up all the profits (literally…the giant of the fam…see below). “Kay” one of the twins, is head florist, creating fabulous arrangements for any occasion! ”Hans” otherwise known as Hannah, is the blonde, blue eyed dutch beauty with a smile for all behind the register. ”Joe” works on the Van Wingerden blueberry farm which started out as ”dads” hobby but turned into a full fledged business! The young’uns, Sarah, Essie and Matt help out when they can and are otherwise at home making more work for “mom” (the real hero of the family!). As for the rest of them…”Lynn” works as a special ed teachers aide…”Mel” is in the process of gaining her nursing and M.R.S. degree…we think she may have a live one on the line. The grand kids are adored and showered with more than enough attention from their aunts and uncles and especially nana and papa!

Our Crew

No family business can survive without some quality help and we have the cream of the crop here at Van Wingerdens! Here is a little bit about our invaluable crew!

Sue (middle)

Sue has been employed with Van Wingerdens for almost 20 years now! She is practically part of the family! Sue is a skilled designer and helps out in many ways whether it be with displays, special plantings, or in the floral department. She is beloved by may of our longtime customers and you will often see her helping behind the register.

Suzy (working hard at the till)

Sweet Suzy is also a fountain of knowledge, especially when it comes to perennials and yard layout! She came to us with a ton of experience and know how so we are not letting her go anytime soon! You will always see Suzy working hard to keep things in tip top shape out in the green goods or giving advice to customers at the till.

Teresa (in green)

Also known as TNT, Teresa can get the job done! Whether she is loading tables, unpacking merchandise, or cleaning up, Teresa can do it all and does it willingly! We don’t know what we’d do without her really!

Mike (below left)

Mike is a recent addition to our crew and we are SO grateful to have him onboard. Mike is the ” garden/yard guru” as he ran his own successful garden center for many years! If you come in with a question that we cannot answer you will most likely be directed to Mike! Mike also provides the humor to keep the smile on our faces!

Free tours to groups of school-aged children or local clubs. Call ahead to schedule an appointment.
Repotting and planting available for a minimal fee. Please call ahead to schedule a time.
No time to shop? Call Van Wingerden Garden Center and we’ll have your order ready for you to pick up.
Each year we work with many different schools and non-profit youth groups in our community. Earn money for your group with our annual Poinsettia Fundraiser. Planning begins in September. Call Susie at 360-366-3906 ext. 12 for details.
Senior Day at Van Wingerden Garden Center is Wednesday. Anyone over 55 is eligible to receive 10% off their entire purchase (excluding sale items) on these days. Please let our staff know if you qualify before we ring up your purchases.
